Cell type markers are proteins, glycosylations or other cellular products that can be used to distinguish between different cell types. For examples, the various stages of T lymphocyte differentiation can be determined by expression of cluster of differentiation (CD) markers such as CD4 for effector T helper cells or CD8 cytotoxic T cells.
