Biological function summary
GRA 1 contributes to the modification of the host cell environment ensuring successful control and replication of T. gondii within the host. It does not function as a part of a bigger complex distinguishing itself from other proteins that operate in large multi-protein structures. GRA 1 interacts directly with host cell components manipulating host signaling pathways to create a favorable niche that allows parasite survival and replication. The strategies employed by the protein might interfere with normal cellular functions enhancing the parasite's ability to evade the host’s immune response.
Pathways
GRA 1 influences intracellular signaling and immune response pathways. It modulates pathways like the host cell's MAPK cascade which is important for responses to external stress and inflammation. This protein also interacts with other T. gondii proteins such as GRA 2 and GRA 6 which work together to redefine host cellular processes and promote parasite persistence and immune evasion. Such interactions shed light on the integration of downstream effects weakening host defense mechanisms.
