補足情報

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

RPS4X also known as SCAR is a ribosomal protein component of the small 40S subunit with a mass of approximately 29 kDa. Widely expressed RPS4X plays an important role in protein synthesis by contributing to ribosome assembly and function. Its presence is detected in various tissues which indicates its significant involvement in cellular protein production necessary for maintenance and survival.
Biological function summary

Proteins that belong to the ribosomal protein family like RPS4X contribute to the formation of the ribosome structure. RPS4X participates in ribosomal assembly as part of the ribonucleoprotein complex. This role is critical for the synthesis of proteins shaping the cellular proteome and maintaining cellular functions. The ability of RPS4X to incorporate into the ribosome ensures that genetic information from mRNA is translated efficiently into the corresponding polypeptide chains.

Pathways

Protein synthesis requires efficient coordination within the translation process where RPS4X functions. RPS4X is involved in the translation machinery alongside other ribosomal proteins and components like RPS6 and eIFs (eukaryotic initiation factors). These interactions are fundamental within the mRNA translation pathways and link RPS4X to processes such as the cell cycle and growth. Ribosomal proteins like RPS4X ensure proper translational control necessary for growth and development.

Proteins such as RPS4X have implications in ribosome-related dysfunctions. Its altered expression or mutation may associate with conditions like Diamond-Blackfan anemia a disorder characterized by defective erythrocyte production. Additionally anomalies in RPS4X are also linked to Turner syndrome where reduced ribosomal activity could play a contributing role. In both disorders there is a potential connection to ribosomal protein RPS19 which is also integral to ribosome function and pathology.

一般的な情報

機能

Component of the small ribosomal subunit. The ribosome is a large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for the synthesis of proteins in the cell (PubMed : 23636399). Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, many ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone and ribosomal proteins associate with the nascent pre-rRNA and work in concert to generate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements and cleavage as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome (PubMed : 34516797).

配列の類似性

Belongs to the eukaryotic ribosomal protein eS4 family.
