Biological function summary
PITPNB ensures the proper distribution of lipids within cells for membrane composition and signaling activities. It participates in maintaining the balance of lipid composition among cell membranes. PITPNB does not function alone; it often acts as part of lipid transfer complexes collaborating with other proteins to execute its function properly.
Pathways
PITPNB plays an active role in phosphoinositide signaling and membrane trafficking pathways. These pathways are critical for cell signaling and membrane dynamics. PI4K2A and PI4KA are proteins related to these pathways and interact with PITPNB highlighting its contribution to complex intracellular signaling processes.
一般的な情報
機能
Catalyzes the transfer of phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylcholine between membranes (PubMed : 10531358, PubMed : 18636990, PubMed : 20332109). Also catalyzes the transfer of sphingomyelin (By similarity). Required for COPI-mediated retrograde transport from the Golgi to the endoplasmic reticulum; phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylcholine transfer activity is essential for this function (PubMed : 20332109).
配列の類似性
Belongs to the PtdIns transfer protein family. PI transfer class I subfamily.
翻訳後修飾
Constitutive phosphorylation of Ser-262 has no effect on phospholipid transfer activity but is required for Golgi targeting.
