補足情報

EBV p23 also known as Epstein-Barr Virus-encoded small RNAs (EBERs) p23 is a protein with molecular mass of around 20 kDa. It interacts with viral proteins within the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) where it is expressed in infected host cells. EBV p23 is important in the viral replication process influencing the transcriptional regulation of viral genes. Inside the cell it plays an integral role in modulating host environment to favor viral survival and persistence.
Biological function summary

The protein EBV p23 functions in the manipulation of host immune responses. EBV p23 helps the virus evade immune detection by interfering with immune-related signaling pathways. In addition to its autonomous action it forms complex with other EBV-encoded proteins which enhances its capacity to affect host cell function. Its interaction with different host cellular processes underlies the persistent nature of EBV infections.

Pathways

EBV p23 is deeply involved in processes related to the NF-kB signaling pathway and the MAPK pathway. Through the NF-kB pathway EBV p23 regulates the transcription of genes that contribute to immune response and inflammation. In MAPK pathway it interacts with proteins such as LMP1 another EBV protein which allows the virus to modulate cell survival and proliferation. These pathways are essential in maintaining viral latency and inducing cellular changes favoring viral spread.

EBV p23 has associations with several conditions including infectious mononucleosis and Hodgkin's lymphoma. In infectious mononucleosis the presence of EBV p23 contributes to the symptoms by interacting with IFN-γ an important cytokine protein in the immune response. In Hodgkin's lymphoma the protein's modification of host pathways contributes to oncogenesis and progression of the disease. Such interactions highlight the impact of EBV p23 on cellular mechanisms leading to disease states.

一般的な情報

機能

Structural component of the T=16 icosahedral capsid. The capsid is composed of pentamers and hexamers of major capsid protein/MCP, which are linked together by heterotrimers called triplexes. These triplexes are formed by a single molecule of triplex protein 1/TRX1 and two copies of triplex protein 2/TRX2. Additionally, TRX1 is required for efficient transport of TRX2 to the nucleus, which is the site of capsid assembly.

配列の類似性

Belongs to the herpesviridae TRX2 protein family.
