    Type V collagen is a member of group I collagen (fibrillar forming collagen). It is a minor connective tissue component of nearly ubiquitous distribution. Type V collagen binds to DNA, heparan sulfate, thrombospondin, heparin, and insulin.

We are currently using human collagen V from another vendor for ELISAs but have recently had problems with small molecular weight contaminants which seem to be affecting our ELISA results. I am curious to know how clean your collagen V preps are ie is SDS-PAGE routinely done to screen for contaminants?

Thank you for your enquiry. This product has been prepared from Bovine Placenta and is chromatographically and immunologically pure. I enquired with our source for this protein and the originator said that it is sterile filtered and kept frozen. No routine check-up within its shelf life is done unless any problem is reported. Please be assured that our policy at Abcam is that if a product does not work as specified on the datasheet, we will offer a replacement or reimbursement. Collagen V has various isoforms, denoted A1, A2, etc. Can you tell me the cross reactivity of this antibody among the isoforms? I am looking for specific antibodies to Col V A2 Thank you very much.

The immunogen to make this antibody is derived from human and bovine placenta. The major isoform comprises two proalpha1 chains and one proalpha2 chain. The second isoform comprises proalpha1, proalpha2 and proalpha3 chains.
