Zearalenone also known as F-2 toxin is a non-steroidal estrogenic mycotoxin produced by Fusarium fungi. It weighs 318.4 g/mol and commonly contaminates cereal crops such as maize wheat and barley. This compound mimics estrogen by binding to estrogen receptors in various tissues affecting hormonal balance. Its expression occurs mainly in agricultural environments where Fusarium fungi thrive.
