補足情報

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

ZBTB5 also known as Zinc Finger and BTB Domain Containing 5 is a transcription factor involved in the regulation of gene expression. It plays a significant role in the transcriptional repression of target genes. ZBTB5 has a molecular mass of around 65 kDa. This protein is expressed in various tissues including the heart brain and skeletal muscle. By binding to specific DNA sequences ZBTB5 can alter transcriptional activity affecting downstream gene networks.
Biological function summary

ZBTB5 participates in the regulation of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and apoptosis. It functions within a complex involving other transcriptional regulators which modulate gene expression during cell proliferation. This protein can act as a transcriptional repressor whereby it binds to target gene promoters modulating the transcription rate according to cellular needs. Its presence influences cellular homeostasis making it essential for normal cell function.

Pathways

ZBTB5 engages in significant transcriptional regulatory pathways including the cell cycle control and apoptosis pathways. It interacts with key proteins within these pathways such as E2F1 and p53 influencing their activity and stability. Through these interactions ZBTB5 contributes to the control of cell division and programmed cell death thereby maintaining the balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis.

ZBTB5 has connections to cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Altered expression levels of ZBTB5 are observed in various types of cancer where it can disrupt normal cell cycle regulation. Its interaction with p53 links it to tumorigenesis as p53 is a well-known tumor suppressor. In neurodegenerative diseases ZBTB5's role in apoptosis could influence neuronal cell death potentially implicating it in conditions like Alzheimer's disease. Understanding ZBTB5's interactions in these disorders may provide new insights into therapeutic strategies.
