The SUC1 protein also known as CKSHS1 has a molecular mass of approximately 13 kDa. It is mainly expressed in yeast cells particularly in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Mechanically SUC1 functions as a regulatory protein that plays a role in cell cycle control by interacting with cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). This interaction modulates the activity of CDKs influencing their ability to phosphorylate target substrates necessary for cell cycle progression.
