補足情報

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

The smallpox B5R protein often just referred to as B5R is a critical component in the life cycle of Orthopoxviruses including variola virus and monkeypox. This protein with a mass of around 42 kDa integrates into the membrane of the extracellular enveloped virus (EEV) form of these viruses. B5R facilitates the virus's ability to leave the host cell and spread to new cells. While there are no widely known alternate names for B5R it remains a significant target for neutralizing antibodies in the design of vaccines.
Biological function summary

B5R plays an important role in the egress and dissemination of the virus within the host. It is part of a larger protein complex responsible for forming the outer envelope of the virus which is necessary for the release of virus particles from infected cells. By aiding the fusion of viral and cellular membranes B5R enables the virus to evade the immune response and promote infection.

Pathways

B5R involves itself in viral replication and immune evasion mechanisms. It is essential in the viral egress pathway operating alongside proteins such as A33R and F13L. These proteins together contribute to the packaging and release of the virus from the host cell allowing it to infect neighboring cells efficiently. B5R through its function supports a seamless interaction within these pathways enhancing viral spread.

B5R has significant implications in the context of diseases caused by Orthopoxviruses namely smallpox and monkeypox. The B5R protein is linked with the virulence of these pathogens making it an important target for antiviral drug development and vaccine design. The protein interacts with immune modulatory pathways potentially working alongside other viral proteins like A36R to disrupt normal immune functions thereby exacerbating the pathogenicity of these diseases.
