補足情報

SEC24A also known as SEC24-related gene family member A is a protein that participates in the process of vesicle formation. It has a molecular mass of approximately 121 kDa. SEC24A is expressed in various tissues including the liver brain and pancreas. It plays an important role in the secretory pathway by helping select and package cargo proteins into vesicles that bud from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). This protein works alongside other components of the COPII complex to ensure specific transport of proteins to their correct cellular destinations.
Biological function summary

SEC24A functions as part of the COPII vesicle coat complex in eukaryotic cells. It helps in selecting and recognizing cargo proteins for transport from the ER to the Golgi apparatus. By binding directly to cargo proteins or indirectly through adaptor proteins SEC24A aids in their incorporation into vesicles. The COPII complex which also includes SEC23 SEC13 and SEC31 is important for effective protein trafficking and maintenance of cellular homeostasis.

Pathways

SEC24A participates significantly in the secretory pathway and ER-to-Golgi transport. It interacts with other pathway proteins such as SAR1 and SEC23 which are essential for COPII vesicle budding and fusion. SEC24A's function in these pathways is critical for cellular processes such as hormone release extracellular matrix construction and lipid metabolism. Its activity ensures proper protein distribution directly affecting cell growth and survival.

SEC24A has connections to cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. Mutations or dysregulation of SEC24A may result in disturbed lipid metabolism contributing to conditions like hyperlipidemia. Additionally the protein's involvement in vesicle trafficking links it to cardiac diseases where improper protein transport can lead to cellular stress and dysfunction. SEC24A's interactive role with proteins like SAR1 can lead to disruptions when they are not functioning properly further emphasizing its impact on disease progression.

ターゲットの情報

Component of the coat protein complex II (COPII) which promotes the formation of transport vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The coat has two main functions, the physical deformation of the endoplasmic reticulum membrane into vesicles and the selection of cargo molecules for their transport to the Golgi complex (PubMed : 17499046, PubMed : 18843296, PubMed : 20427317). Plays a central role in cargo selection within the COPII complex and together with SEC24B may have a different specificity compared to SEC24C and SEC24D. May package preferentially cargos with cytoplasmic DxE or LxxLE motifs and may also recognize conformational epitopes (PubMed : 17499046, PubMed : 18843296).
