RPL18 functions as part of the ribosomal complex facilitating mRNA translation into proteins. This protein is integral to the structure of the ribosome which serves as the platform for accurate peptide bond formation between amino acids. RPL18 like other ribosomal proteins contributes to the stability and efficiency of the ribosome's function during the translation process. Its presence ensures the proper alignment and interaction of ribosomal RNA and other ribosomal proteins.

RPL18 is involved in key processes like the protein synthesis pathway and the ribosomal biogenesis pathway.
