補足情報

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

PTCD1 also known as Pentatricopeptide Repeat Domain 1 is a mitochondrial protein involved in RNA processing. This protein has an approximate mass of 64 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues with significant levels found in the heart and skeletal muscles. PTCD1 is located within the mitochondria where it performs its mechanical functions related to RNA metabolism.
Biological function summary

PTCD1 participates in the stability and processing of mitochondrial RNA. It is an essential component of mitochondrial RNA metabolism interacting with RNA molecules to facilitate proper mitochondrial gene expression. PTCD1 does not appear to be part of a larger complex but it performs critical individual functions within the mitochondrial matrix.

Pathways

The protein PTCD1 plays a part in the mitochondrial gene expression pathway. It manages the processing and stability of mitochondrial mRNA which is necessary for the translation of mitochondrial protein-coding genes. PTCD1 is closely related to other mitochondrial RNA-binding proteins such as LRPPRC which also have roles in mRNA stability and expression.

PTCD1 has been connected to mitochondrial disorders particularly those linked with mitochondrial RNA processing defects. Its improper function can lead to mitochondrial myopathies which are disorders that affect muscle function due to mitochondrial dysfunction. PTCD1's role is important in understanding these conditions especially in relation to LRPPRC which shares overlapping functions in mitochondrial RNA metabolism.
