補足情報

This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.

The 16kDa protein also known as Acr or HspX is a well-characterized antigen of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Its molecular weight is approximately 16 kDa. This protein expresses prominently during the latent phase of the bacterium within host cells. The 16kDa protein functions primarily as a chaperone ensuring proper protein folding and stabilization under stress conditions. It resides mainly in the cytoplasm of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and plays a role in the bacterial stress response.
Biological function summary

The function of the 16kDa protein ties closely to the bacterium's ability to persist within host tissues. The protein is part of the complex regulatory network involved in latency and survival contributing to immune evasion. It assists the bacterium in adapting to hypoxic nutrient-limited conditions common during chronic infection. Through these adaptations the 16kDa protein enhances the survival capabilities of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the host environment.

Pathways

The activity of the 16kDa protein intersects with pathways involving stress response and dormancy regulation. It interacts with the DosR regulon a two-component system important for latency. Through this interaction the protein contributes to the Mycobacterium's response to low oxygen and nitric oxide levels. Additionally its relationship with other heat shock proteins strengthens its function in maintaining protein homeostasis under hostile conditions.

The 16kDa protein has strong links to tuberculosis a major infectious disease worldwide. Latent tuberculosis a state in which the bacteria persist in a dormant state heavily relies on proteins like the 16kDa protein for continued survival. Interactions with DosR and other latency-associated proteins make it an important target for studying latent tuberculosis mechanisms. Understanding the role of this protein in tuberculosis could lead to novel insights into therapeutic interventions targeting dormant infections.
