    Epitope tags are short peptide sequences that are easily recognized by tag-specific antibodies. Due to their small size, epitope tags do not affect the tagged protein’s biochemical properties. Most often sequences encoding the epitope tag are included with target DNA at the time of cloning to produce fusion proteins containing the epitope tag sequence. This allows anti-epitope tag antibodies to serve as universal detection reagents for any tag containing protein produced by recombinant means. This means that anti-epitope tag antibodies are a useful alternative to generating specific antibodies to identify, immunoprecipitate or immunoaffinity purify a recombinant protein. The anti-epitope tag antibody is usually functional in a variety of antibody-dependent experimental procedures. Expression vectors producing epitope tag fusion proteins are available for a variety of host expression systems including bacteria, yeast, insect and mammalian cells.

Question

Inquiry: Hello, I am looking for a not-rabbit anti-Myc tag antibody to use in a double-staining procedure with another antibody made in rabbit. We have been successfully using the rabbit anti-Myc (Ab9106) antibody for immunostainings of Drosophila brain. Now, we would like to try the similar chicken anti-Myc (Ab9109) for a double-labeling but we are not sure if it works in Drosophila at all. I was wondering whether it is possible to obtain an aliquot of the Ab9109 antibody to try it in our assay before spending over $300 in the product. Once we know that it works in our system we will be happy to buy the commercially available package of that product.

Since the antibody ab9109 is specific for the Myc tag and not an endogenousDrosophila protein, we would guarantee this antibody to work in the tested applications of Western blot and ELISA with your samples. However, we have not tested ab9109 in any kind of immunostaining so we're not sure if it is suitable for this application. We don't provide sample aliquots of our products, but we do have a testing discount program that you are eligible for. As part of this program, you would need to first purchase ab9109 at full price, but after testing the antibody in immunostaining and submitting an online Abreview with your data and protocol, you would receive one free primary antibody on a future purchase.If you're interested in this program I can send you the full details.

Wealso have several anti-chicken secondary antibodies in case you don't already have one. For an HRP conjugation, I would recommend ab7118, which has been tested in immunostaining and has been pre-adsorbed so that it won't cross-react with your other primary antibody-

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand your question. In WB, this antibody is reported to be able to detect the c-myc epitope tag at a 1:10,000 dilution.
