Biological function summary
INPP5A enzymes regulate calcium signaling and apoptosis through their phosphatase activity. By removing phosphate groups INPP5A enzymes contribute to the termination of inositol phosphate signaling which affects a wide variety of cell processes. This enzyme functions as a singular unit rather than part of a larger enzyme complex allowing it to target inositol phosphates independently. The control of these signaling pathways is important for maintaining proper cellular function and communicating signals within cells.
Pathways
INPP5A contributes to the phosphoinositide signaling pathway and calcium signaling pathway. Its phosphatase activity provides an important regulatory function modulating the levels of inositol phosphates and thereby affecting downstream signaling processes like calcium release. It relates to proteins such as IP3 receptors and other inositol phosphatases emphasizing its role in orchestrating complex signaling networks within cells.
