Biological function summary
Hemagglutinin H1 plays an important role in membrane fusion enabling the viral genome to enter the host cell cytoplasm after endocytosis. This protein functions as part of a larger complex combining with neuraminidase to facilitate successful viral replication and host infection. Neuraminidase helps in the release of new viral particles from host cells while hemagglutinin is important for initiating attachment to host cells. Therefore H1 hemagglutinin's interaction with host cells marks an essential step in the influenza viral lifecycle.
Pathways
The Influenza A H1 protein is a major player in the viral infection pathway and is intricately involved in the viral replication cycle. It interacts closely with other viral proteins predominantly neuraminidase to ensure proper viral assembly and release. The coordinated action of these proteins within the viral life cycle emphasizes hemagglutinin's role in the perpetuation and spread of the Influenza A virus aligning with broader pathways of host cell infection and immune evasion.
