    The insulin-like growth factors possess growth-promoting activity. In vitro, they are potent mitogens for cultured cells. IGF-II is influenced by placental lactogen and may play a role in fetal development.
    Preptin undergoes glucose-mediated co-secretion with insulin, and acts as physiological amplifier of glucose-mediated insulin secretion. Exhibits osteogenic properties by increasing osteoblast mitogenic activity through phosphoactivation of MAPK1 and MAPK3.

    Epigenetic changes of DNA hypomethylation in IGF2 are a cause of Silver-Russell syndrome (SIRS) [MIM:180860]. SIRS is a clinically heterogeneous condition characterized by severe intrauterine growth retardation, poor postnatal growth, craniofacial features such as a triangular shaped face and a broad forehead, body asymmetry, and a variety of minor malformations.

I have checked the sequence homology (http://fasta.bioch.virginia.edu/fasta_www2/fasta_www.cgi) between Insulin (http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P01308) and IGF2 (http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P01344); though there is 40% homology however the homology is not more than 6 amino acid in a single stretch which means it is very unlikely that anti IGF2 antibody would cross react with Insulin.

The immunogen sequence of ab63984 corresponds to sequence between aa 80-130 of human IGF2. This sequence is not present in Insulin so this might be a good candidate antibody for you to try.

I am sorry to confirm that as far as we are aware, ab63984 has never been tested with samples from rat. All tested species cross-reactivity information covered by the guaranteeis stated on our datasheets, and these are updated as soon as any new information is brought to our attention.

I am sorry I am not able to provide the immunogen sequence, as this is confidential. However, I can confirm that the alignment of the mouse immunogen with the rat protein is 82%. This is fairly high and so we would suggest this antibody is likely to detect in rat. However, please note we are not able to guarantee this without further testing.
