    Hirudin is a highly effective and very specific anticoagulant which specifically inhibits formation of fibrin and activation of factors V, VIII and XIII by forming irreversible, noncovalent 1:1 complexes with a-thrombin. Hirudin is a 65 amino acid polypeptide, 7 kDa protein naturally originating from the medical leech Hirudo medicinalis. It is the most potent thrombin inhibitor known to date.

    I have heard back from the lab and they have told me that ab17198reacts to the variant 2 form of Hirudin, not variant 1.

    We test ab17198 and ab36390 byaccessing their binding abilities to human thrombin and to complex of human thrombin with the thromobin inhibitor hirudin. We have not tested the antibodies in other species other than human so do not have any empirical data regarding the species specificity of the products. Therefore we only state the species that we have tested on the datasheet.
