Biological function summary
B4GALT3 contributes significantly to the biosynthesis and modification of glycoproteins and glycolipids. It is a part of the glycosyltransferase family which functions in forming glycosidic bonds. This enzyme does not work alone; it often associates with other enzymes within the Golgi complex supporting diverse cellular processes like cell adhesion and receptor-ligand interactions by creating complex glycans.
Pathways
B4GALT3 is involved in the N-glycan biosynthesis and glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis pathways. In these pathways B4GALT3 interacts with proteins such as GlcNAcT glycosyltransferases aiding in the structural diversification of glycoconjugates. These pathways are essential for proper cell surface receptor function and signaling linking B4GALT3 to processes necessary for normal cell communication and structural integrity.
