The ATL3 protein also known as Atlastin GTPase 3 functions mechanically in cellular processes like membrane fusion. It belongs to the family of dynamin-like GTPases characterized by their ability to hydrolyze GTP to fuel various cellular activities. ATL3 has a molecular mass of about 61 kDa. Expression of ATL3 occurs in various tissues with a significant presence in the brain possibly hinting at its specific roles in neurological functions.
Biological function summary

ATL3 participates in the maintenance of the tubular network of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). The protein often acts as a dimer and works similarly to other members of the atlastin family. This dimerization and its involvement in membrane fusion aid in creating and maintaining the three-dimensional structure of the ER which is important for various cellular functions and signaling pathways. ATL3 also contributes to the proper spatial arrangement of organelles inside the cells.
