AKR7A3 also known as aflatoxin aldehyde reductase is an enzyme that functions mechanically to reduce aldehyde substrates to alcohols. This protein weighs approximately 36 kDa and is expressed widely in human tissues with higher levels in the liver and kidneys. AKR7A3 belongs to the aldo-keto reductase superfamily which is involved in detoxifying reactive carbonyl species playing an important role in protecting cells from oxidative stress.
