Potassium channel blocker. Antimalarial, anticholinergic, antihypertensive and hypoglycemic agent. Inhibits mitochondrial ATP-regulated potassium channel. Also used to study the metabolism of biocrystalized heme, hemozoin, in malarial parasites and to study the toxicity of heme (FP)-complexes.
