This gene encodes a member of the nucleosome assembly protein (NAP) family which can interact with both core and linker histones. It can shuttle between the cytoplasm and nucleus, suggesting a role as a histone chaperone. This gene is one of several located near the imprinted gene domain of 11p15.5, an important tumor-suppressor gene region. Alterations in this region have been associated with the Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, Wilms tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, adrenocortical carcinoma, and lung, ovarian, and breast cancer. -

Additional bands at: 30 kDa (possible cleavage fragment), 30 kDa (possible cross reactivity), 64 kDa (possible cross reactivity)For each lane, U2OS cells, either treated or not treated with ionizing radiation, were scraped from a 60 mm dish and added to 75 µl of 2X Laemmli buffer. 20 µl of these samples were loaded into each lane. ab21631 recognizes a major band of approximately 52 kDa corresponding closely in size to NAP1L4, which has been shown to migrate at approximately 50-55 kDa (Rodriquez, et al., J. of Cell. Biochemistry 93:398-408). It also detects a cross-reacting band at 30 kDa.
