      ab17857 recognizes a 60kDa non-glycosylated protein component of mitochondria found in human cells. It can be used to stain the mitochondria in human cell or tissue preparations and can be used as a mitochondrial-marker in subcellular fractions. ab17857 also detects the organelles within mitochondria; characteristic ('spaghetti'-like) mitochchondrial staining pattern is observed in the cytoplasm of normal and malignant human cells.

    Question

    Dear Abcam team,
    We are looking for a way to distinguish between mouse and human cells
    following orthotopic injection of tumorigenic prostate cells into the
    mouse prostate. The resulting tumor is fixed in formaldehyde and
    paraffin embedded so that the antibody must be IHC-P grade.
    Stated another way we need an antibody that reacts only with human and
    not with mouse cells in the same section.
    What about ab17857.

    Thank you for contacting us.

    Regarding antibody ab17857 I am afraid we have not tested it with mouse samples, therefore the cross-reactivity with this species is not known.

    We have other antibodies against Mitochondria validated in IHC-P, like ab80649, but this one is from mouse, so there is a likelihood that it will react with mouse tissue.

    However ab92824 is specific for human mitochondria and does not react with rat or mouse, so it may be suitable for your application.

    Thank you for your enquiry and interest. As the datasheets indicate these antibodies have been tested for cross-reaction with human but not data available for mouse. All of these three antibodies are raised in mouse, so high non-specific background could be a problem using mouse tissue sections in IHC. However, it has not been determined if ab3298, ab17857, ab79479 recognize murine mitochondrial proteins. If you need any further assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.
