Influenza A and B are the two types of influenza viruses that cause epidemic human disease. Influenza type C infections cause a mild respiratory illness and are not thought to cause epidemics. Influenza A viruses are further categorized into subtypes on the basis of two surface antigens: hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N). Strains are also described by geographic origin, strain number and year of isolation. -

ab20841 staining Influenza A Virus in reconstructed 1918 H1N1 influenza infected Mouse lung tissue sections by Immunohistochemistry. Tissue was fixed with 10% neutral-buffered formalin and embedded in paraffin. Slides were deparaffinized, rehydrated in water, steam antigen retrieved in pH 6 citrate buffer, and blocked with 3% H2O2. Samples were incubated with primary antibody (1/500) for 1 hour at room temperature. Top - EUK-207 treated mouse, 8 days postinfection, Bottom uninfected mouse control. Brown staining indicates positive staining in cell's cytoplasm and/or nucleus. Cellular debris is also frequently positive.
