    Serum albumin, the main protein of plasma, has a good binding capacity for water, Ca(2+), Na(+), K(+), fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin and drugs. Its main function is the regulation of the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Major zinc transporter in plasma, typically binds about 80% of all plasma zinc.

    For ab10241 the lab let me know how the cross-reactivity with BSA was tested:

    We have determined the cross-reactivityto BSA in a dot-blot method. We tested in parallel sera from several animal species and also purified HSA and BSA. The antibody was not reacting with BSA.

    I have also inquired about the crossreactivity of our HSA ELISA kit ab108788 with BSA, and am waiting to hear back. I will let you know what I find out.

    According to the testing data and Abreviews from customers on the datasheet, this antibody has been used successfully with various blocking agents including BSA. For example, there is an Abeview where BSA has been used as a blocking agent in WB:

    I have heard back from the lab:
    For ab2406, for use with human tissues, BSA may work but for other species it may crossreact.
    For ab10241, it is not crossreacting with BSA.

    Thus using BSA would be fine, but I might suggest trying this in a test experiment before doing the antibody array.
