The biotinylation of ab20640 was accomplished by covalently coupling the primary antibody free amine groups with the N-Hydroxysuccinimide ester of biotin under mild conditions to give a high degree of substitution.

I have talked to the lab about your enquiry regarding ab20640 and they have informed me that the antibody has been tested and is reactive with cell surface antigens on intact E. coli organisms. The immunogen is a mixture of whole cells from several E.coli serotypes, but some of the organisms in the immunogen may become disrupted during the immunization process. The antibody is a polyclonal antibody and will therefore recognize multiple epitopes on multiple proteins. Some of the epitopes recognized may be on E. coli proteins that are not cell surface proteins, but this has not been tested.

Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, the biotin/antibody ration is not determined for this antibody. As I mentioned, a common estimate for antibody biotinylation in general is is 3 - 6 biotin molecules per immunoglobulin. Please let us know if you need any other information.

For ab25823, it should be fine to conjugate the antibody with biotin, using one of our EasyLink kits.
As for ab20640, it may react with BL21, but I cannot guarantee it, all we know is that it will recognize the strains O18, O20, O44, O55, O111, O112, O125, O157, K12.

ab20640 is an IgG, so the MW without biotin is also ~150 kDa. I hope this helps.  

Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately, it is not known exactly how much biotin per molecule of antibody is conjugated, the molecular weight of ab20640 is therefore undetermined. For ab35654, which is an unconjugated immunogloblulin, the molecular weight is ~150 kDa. As shown on the product datasheet, the concentration of ab20640 is 4 mg/ml and the concentration of ab35654 is 0.5 mg/ml. I hope this information is nevertheless helpful to you. This antibody has been tested in ELISA against E.coli serotypes O157:H7, O20, O55, O111, O125 and K12. It will therefore be suitable for detection of the K12 strain.
