Vibrio parahaemolyticus is an oxidase positive, facultatively aerobic, non spore forming Gram negative bacillus with a single polar flagellum. When ingested, it causes gastrointestinal illness in humans, with ingestion via raw or undercooked seafood (typically oysters) being the main route of infection.
