Vibrio parahaemolyticus is an oxidase positive, facultatively aerobic, non spore forming, Gram negative bacillus with a single polar flagellum. When ingested it causes gastrointestinal illness in humans, with ingestion via raw or undercooked seafood (typically oysters) being the main route of infection.
