rna1 is the GTPase activator for the nuclear Ras-related regulatory protein spi1 (Ran), converting it to the putatively inactive GDP-bound state. rna1 is located in the cytoplasm throughout the cell cycle and plays a direct role in protein import into the nucleus in S. cerevisiae and S. pombe. It contains 8 LRR (leucine-rich) repeats.
Cytoplasm. Cytoplasm; perinuclear region. Possibly enriched in the nuclear periphery.
