Acetylation of histones such histone H3 has been involved in the regulation of chromatin structure and the recruitment of transcription factors to gene promoters. HATs (histone acetyltransferases) and HDACs (histone deacetylases) play a critical role in controlling histone H3 actylation. Lysine 9 at histone H3 is a primary acetylated site of histone H3. Histone H3 (acetyl K9) appears to have a dominant role in histone deposition and chromatin assembly in some organisms. Histone H3 (acetyl K9) is an active marker as well as being tightly involved in cell cycle regulation, cell proliferation and apoptosis. The balance between H3 (acetyl K9) and H3 (methyl K9) is important for the establishment of specific chromatin structures.
Abcam's Histone H3 (acetyl K9) Quantification Kit (Fluorometric) (ab115105) allows the user to measure global acetylation of histone H3K9. The kit is ready-to-use and provides all the essential components needed to carry out a successful assay experiment.
