E − corneal epithelium. a – Caspase-3 staining is strong in the epithelium (particularly in superficial layers, arrows) of injured corneas on day 4 (a) as well as 10 (b) after the injury (arrows). c – On day 15 after the injury the expression of caspase-3 is present in the corneal epithelium as well as in the corneal stroma (arrows show to the cell apoptosis).
