Use a concentration of 1 - 2 µg/ml. Detects a band of approximately 45 kDa (predicted molecular weight: 49 kDa).Can be blocked with Mouse Caspase-2L peptide (ab38266). Full length protein and a smaller band of about 12 kDa (small subunit).
Function: Involved in the activation cascade of caspases responsible for apoptosis execution. Might function by either activating some proteins required for cell death or inactivating proteins necessary for cell survival.
Tissue specificity: Expressed at higher levels in the embryonic lung, liver and kidney than in the heart and brain. In adults, higher level expression is seen in the placenta, lung, kidney, and pancreas than in the heart, brain, liver and skeletal muscle.
Similarity: Belongs to the peptidase C14A family.

ICC/IF image of ab18737 stained MCF-7 cells. The cells were 4% formaldehyde fixed (10 min) and then incubated in 1%BSA / 10% normal goat serum / 0.3M glycine in 0.1% PBS-Tween for 1h to permeabilise the cells and block non-specific protein-protein interactions. The cells were then incubated with the antibody ab18737 at 5µg/ml overnight at +4°C. The secondary antibody (green) was anti-rabbit DyLight® 488 (ab96899) used at a 1:1000 dilution for 1h. Alexa Fluor® 594 WGA was used to label plasma membranes (red) at a 1:200 dilution for 1h. DAPI was used to stain the cell nuclei (blue) at a concentration of 1.43µM.
